Divemaster

Congratulations. By this point, you’re well on your way to turning pro, transforming your passion for diving into your bread and butter! PADI Divemaster is designed to improve your stamina and hone your dive knowledge, and Red Sea Diving can help you to step up to a professional level. The Divemaster course gives you the chance to work with and assist your instructor during training, building on your problem solving and accident management skills.

The course consists of five components:

  • In Depth Diving Knowledge Development
  • Stamina Tests
  • Work Experience
  • Water Skills
  • Practical Assessments

The Divemaster Course eases the student from recreational to professional diving. Upon successful completion, you will be able to assist a PADI instructor during training sessions for PADI Courses and supervise training activities by organising, planning and directing dives. Achieving PADI Divemaster standard will give you the opportunity to progress to the PADI Dive Instructor Course.

The PADI Divemaster course is both knowledge based and practical. The Divemaster course includes an internship at a dive centre, teaching you about the diving business and giving you the opportunity to consider where you want to take your diving career. Students should expect to undertake a minimum of 120 hours training, spread out over time. To qualify as a Divemaster, you will need a minimum of 60 dives under your belt, 20 of which you will need to have undertaken before you enrol on your course with Red Sea Diving.

For the knowledge element of the course, you will need:

  • Divemaster Slates
  • PADI Divemaster Manual
  • The Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving
  • CD-ROM with Instructor Outlines for Divemaster Conducted Programs
  • The Diving Knowledge Workbook

The PADI Dive Master crewpack provides you with all of the necessary literature and is available at the resort priced £135 (including certification fee of £32 otherwise payable upon successful completion of the course). Don’t forget, to take advantage of the online discounts you will need to make an online reservation in advance. We do not take payments ourselves, but pass on your reservation details to the local dive centre.  You then pay your course fees to them when you arrive at the resort.

The swimming test increases to 400 meters and you will be asked to tread water for 15 minutes (hands held out of the water for the last two). You will be required to undertake an 800m timed snorkel, only using fin strokes. You will then be asked to carry out a timed 100 metre tired diver tow, dressed in full scuba diving equipment. The medical questionnaire is more meticulous, and is accompanied by a medical examination. Some medical conditions (particularly those of the heart, chest, sinuses, eyes, ears and claustrophobia) would compromise your safety underwater and, unfortunately, render you unfit to dive. If you suffer from any existing medical condition, this need not be an automatic bar, but if you do have any concerns it would be a good idea to visit your local GP before flying out. If you do suffer an existing condition, we may need to ask you for a doctor’s letter confirming your fitness to dive. We are, of course, happy to arrange a consultation for you at the resort, but you may wish to deal with this beforehand to avoid any inconvenience or disruption to your holiday.

You will also need to ensure that you are covered for scuba diving under the terms of your travel insurance, as scuba is excluded under some policies. Columbus cover scuba diving as standard up to a depth of 30m.

To enrol for the PADI Divemaster Diver course you must be at least 18 years of age, and have reached the level Rescue Diver. You will also need to hold a valid Emergency First Aid certificate.

Once you have achieved the Divemaster standard, you will be ready to begin instructor training, starting with the PADI Instructor Development Course. There are numerous speciality courses available once you have qualified as an instructor, leading up to the ultimate award of Master Scuba Diver.
